Advancing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Fund

To ensure a world that is fair and inclusive to all, we must collectively foster a community that values and celebrates people’s differences. Through the generosity of donors, we are working together to reduce barriers through initiatives including the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Fund, which was established to:

  • Increase accessibility to education and promote success for equity-seeking student groups;
  • Support Carleton’s commitment to research excellence by confirming the value of EDI as a scholarly focus across disciplines.

Contributions from our generous donors will strengthen a culture of equity and inclusion where all students feel a sense of belonging. Through these contributions, an online human rights module will be developed with a focus on equity and anti-oppression. This module will be a mandatory requirement for all future incoming undergraduate students, serving as an entry point for learning about human rights and how they can be upheld at Carleton.

MPNL Award for Black Emerging Fundraising Professionals

Spearheaded and led through the generosity of the Black Canadian Fundraisers’ Collective, the Master of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership Award for Black Emerging Fundraising Professionals is the first of its kind for the MPNL Program. The support received from our donor community will help to ease the path for a Black student or students entering or continuing in the MPNL program to pursue a career as a professional fundraiser in the nonprofit sector.

Here is the positive impact donor support has had on recipients so far:

Walter Itoe

“I cannot explain in a few sentences the extent of impact and difference this grant has made for me personally and academically. As a first-generation immigrant I knew I had to work hard to survive and afford grad school expenses. It is thanks to your support and generosity that I can focus more on my education so I can one day be in position to give back to the community like the Black Canadian Fundraiser’s Collective has done for me.”

Holly Mohr

"Receiving this award has helped me come to understand there is a network of strong, Black leaders behind and around me, and in a space with so few diverse practitioners, this is incredibly empowering. This scholarship is truly invaluable to young change-makers coming up in the sector, financially of course, but also emotionally and culturally. I am so very grateful to have received this award. Thank you.”

Therry Chevalier

“This award has been a constant reminder of my responsibilities to amplify the voices of the communities that I represent. This award is also a source of strength as it embodies the strong and dedicated network of Black fundraising professionals and changemakers who believe in my abilities and potential. I am forever grateful for the supporters who are helping to make this award possible. Through their gifts, they are investing in the future of fundraising; inclusive, effective, and genuinely impactful.”

Sherlyn Assam

"The financial support this award gave me was an extra boost that allowed me to dive into my semester with a sense of security and excitement. The BCFC arranging the award showed me there is a philanthropic family to graduate into and learn from. The generous donors reminded me that this work is worthwhile, and I am worth investing in. To everyone involved, thank you so much - from the bottom of my heart."
